My Simple yet Enthusiastic Celebration of Dragon Boat Festival

Introduction

Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese festival that falls on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar. This year, I celebrated the festival with my family in a simple yet enthusiastic manner.

Preparation

On the day before the festival, my mom and I went to the market to buy sticky rice, lotus leaves, meat, and other ingredients for making zongzi. Zongzi is a glutinous rice dish wrapped in bamboo or lotus leaves and is a traditional food during Dragon Boat Festival. We prepared the ingredients, soaked the lotus leaves, and started making zongzi.

Celebration

On the day of the festival, my family and I woke up early and went to the park to watch the dragon boat racing competition. Many teams from different provinces came to participate in the competition. The boats were colorful and decorated with dragon heads and tails. The atmosphere was lively and full of excitement. After the competition, we enjoyed the zongzi we made at home and drank realgar wine, a traditional Chinese drink believed to have detoxifying properties.

Conclusion

Dragon Boat Festival is not just about eating zongzi and drinking realgar wine, but also about remembering and honoring the patriotic poet Qu Yuan, who drowned himself in the Miluo River over 2,000 years ago. It is about celebrating a cultural tradition and spending time with family and friends. I had a great time celebrating Dragon Boat Festival with my family this year and look forward to celebrating it in the years to come.
